To keep up with this philosophy, Marki Microwave is proud to publicly offer our non-linear simulation kits for both NI AWR’s Microwave Office and Keysight’s Advanced Design System (ADS). Both design kits concurrently offer simulation models for the Microlithic and MMIC product lines. Support for both design kits are ongoing and verified through measurement.
For mixer and other non-linear devices, S-parameters are not meaningful. S-parameters only shows small signal behavior and does not allow for large signal analysis. X-parameters, the superset of S-parameters, does allow for large signal analysis. However, X-parameter models are both environmentally dependent and depend on the device under test’s input condition. Behavioral models such as S-parameters and X-parameters do a good job for simple components like power dividers and couplers. Heavily non-linear devices such as mixers and doublers demand physics based models capable of accurately predicting non-linear results. Numerical solutions through harmonic balance simulations are the time efficient way of performing non-linear analysis such as IP3 and spurious output prediction early in the design cycle. Days of careful characterization can be reduced to hours with the design and debug support offered by these simulation kits.
